Designing Services in the Global South

My PhD research deals with designing services in the Global South. While 'service design' has become mainstream in Europe and overseas, not much has been done either in terms of research or implementation in the Global South - even though there are so many opportunities for improving basic services like the provision of energy or water, transport healthcare or education. My investigation is qualitative in nature - by analysing a small number of case studies in the offgrid energy sector and interviewing service design experts, I explore how service design may influence the success of implementation efforts. Through my PhD, I learnt what it takes to be a scientist, from research rigour to using the right analytical tools or publishing journal articles.
